Christmas extras: Poetic blog prompts for creative writers

Who needs a reason to write?

The holidays are here. Are you ready to share a bit of inspiration?

“Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone.”
(Charles Schulz)

Feeling ready to compose something of your own?

Write your own creative blog post. Develop a journal entry, post a photograph, do a drawing, record a song, make a video, or come up with something else altogether. Put it up on your own blog or site. Include a link to Simply Snickers.

Then c’mon back, and leave a comment with a link to your own post, so our readers can enjoy it too!

Happy holidays, and best wishes to all.

Happy Thanksgiving. Post Grateful Links!

I am thankful for so much, especially at Thanksgiving time. Maybe you are too.

Are you writing, blogging, and publishing about Thanksgiving? Perhaps you are participating in the 30 Days of Gratitude challenge.

Here are a few keywords to prompt your creative and appreciation-based posts.

thanks
faith
gratitude
appreciation
praise
commend
thoughtful

Here's how it works.

Pick any or all of these words, and incorporate them into your own poetry, prose, or other sort of post. Link back to Simply Snickers. (Here's how.)

Use the vintage Thanksgiving artwork, if you wish. It's public domain, as the copyright has expired.

Then c'mon back to this post, and leave a comment with a link back to your own. It's that easy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday

Boo! What’s new? Rhyme it!

As trick or treaters pick out their costumes, and Halloween party planners go to town, creative bloggers may wax poetic.

Who needs a spooky writing prompt or eerie meme?

Do you have a creative writing or poetry blog or website? Maybe your site is educational, homey, informative, newsy, or scientific.

Don't have a bird or go batty. Just blog it!

Whatever your angle, here are several Halloween-related blog prompt ideas. This word search contains at least 25 holiday-related terms. How many can you find?

Pick your prompt, and publish your Halloween post on your own site.

Then c’mon back here, and leave a comment with a link to your post, so our readers can find it! Use the images, if you want (linking back to the clip-art provider – listed below).

Good-Sport Bloggers Wax Poetic on Olympics

Olympic athletes may be positively poetic, at least proverbially, as they participate in their respective activities.

The Summer Olympic Games, formally known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, open today in London. The 2012 Olympics run through August 12.

Who’s blogging on the Olympics?

This global gathering offers athletes countless opportunities to display both sports abilities and personal character.

Here’s the Simply Snickers blog/poetry prompt:

good sport

What’s a good sport? What’s a poor sport? What examples come to mind of good or poor sportsmanship, particularly at the Olympics (past or present)?

Here’s a three-way bonus for bloggers!

Work out your own good sportsmanship (or Olympics-related) blog post. Have fun with it!

Use the artwork provided here (with proper credit and linking, of course), or pick your own.

Then stop by to leave a linked comment in these three spots:

1)  Comment right here (see below) at the Simply Snickers.

2)  Visit the Meme Express to comment with a link to your post (Find the July 27th “Olympics” post.)

3)  “Like” the Madison Holidays Examiner page (on Facebook), and leave an Olympics-related post link or two.

Enjoy the Olympics … and plenty of related readership!

Who's Nosy Now for a New Poetry Prompt?

Nosiness can be nasty, but maybe a little creative curiosity isn’t all bad. Sometimes life can be  just a little too crazy to ignore. Take a look, and see what I mean.

OK, we’ve heard of “birds of a feather” and even “taken the bull by the horns,” but what is going on here?

Is anyone's beak in a twist yet?

What poetic ponderings does this picture plant in your own head? Are you ready to put pen to paper (or to peck away at your keyboard)?

Have at it! Blog away. Include the artwork (above), or pick out your own.

Just be sure to come back and leave a comment with a link to your poetic post, so readers can follow and find it.

Proposing Plucky Poetry Prompts

Who’s ready to wax eloquent or court the musical muse?

What wondrous words does this image inspire in you? What questions does it raise for your inquiring imagination?

Can you conceive what these lovely ladies might be thinking?

Who is the musician? Is it a man or a woman? What is he or she singing to the listening trio? Is the singer telling a story, cracking a joke, or merely musing musically?

Where might this scene be taking place?

Are your wheels turning yet? Still need help coming up with a poetic blog concept? Try these writing prompt words:

propose
pluck
poet
prompt
presuming

Use all of the words as writing prompts, or take your pick! Just be sure to link to Simply Snickers in your post, and return here to leave a comment with a link to your own blog post. Our readers would love to see what you have written.

Have fun with these plucky poetry prompts!

Who's doing the A to Z Blogging Challenge for 2012?

Hundreds of bloggers have enlisted in the 2012 A to Z Blogging Challenge, which starts April 1st. Participants have agreed to post daily blog entries for an entire month, titling their posts alphabetically.

Want to join?

Sign up online for the A to Z Blogging Challenge. Be sure to check out the Facebook page too. If you do sign up, you will want to add the A to Z Blogging Challenge graphic and link to your own blog.

Simply Snickers is not playing this year.

Actually, I am – but on six other blogs. Phew! Here we go:
Will you “follow” these blogs and nudge me along by reading and commenting? Be sure to leave links to your own posts, if you’re doing the A to Z Blogging Challenge too! That way, my readers can find your blogs as well.

April is also NaPoWriMo.

That’s National Poetry Writing Month. Poets plan to write at least one poem per day for the entire month.

I’ve done this for several years, and it’s really quite fun. If you want to try crafting daily verses, be sure to check out the daily topic ideas at Meme Express for fodder to feature.

C’mon back and leave your poetry links here (and at Meme Express) to send more readers your way.

Hey, it could be verse!
