Poetry Prompt - for Sunday, May 18, 2008

Welcome to SIMPLY SNICKERS.

Thanks to all of the wonderfully witty and gifted writers who have participated in our SIMPLY SNICKERS poetry prompts so far. We have all been enjoying reading one another's work.

Those who posted have been added to our blogroll.
(See below - left.)

This week, for Sunday, May 18th, our SIMPLY SNICKERS poetry prompt includes these key words:

roulette

raffle

rise

Use your imagination, and have fun! Try your hand and your luck at a new form of verse. Rise to the occasion, and post a poem.

Your entry does not have to be about gambling or gaming . . . why not try spinning a creative turn-of-phrase or a little wordplay?

Be sure to come back to SIMPLY SNICKERS by Sunday, May 18th, and leave a comment with a link to your post, once you have published your poem on your own blog.

Please include a link to SIMPLY SNICKERS with your post, so others can discover us and participate as well.

And remember to check out other entries. Every writer loves to receive blog visits and friendly comments!

Have fun with this week's prompt!

  1. I just wanted to leave a quick comment about something I've thought about as it relates to your prompts. The 1st one I liked, because it had just one tiny picture to go with it. This one is kind of annoying because it has so many tacky pictures and it influences too much the way I think of the prompt. Perhaps roulette and raffle would have nothing to do with those pictures in someones mind, but the pictures over-take the ideas one wants to come up with for a poem. I know my poetry is coming from 'me' and not from the pictures that go with your words. Either use a picture ALONE, or words ALONE, or with a tiny picture. But I suggest you don't use both, or at least not in so many pictures that it ruins the idea. Just my 2 cents. Don't take it personally...it's just my suggestion.

  2. Hi there! Here is my poem. It's not my best work, but I'm not feeling well today, so it's the best I have.

    Russian Roulette

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. "Jane",
oh my god, i have been thinking of how to use those words in a poem and couldn't...and when i read this, it resonated with me totally! i love the way you used the words; but more than that, i loved the meaning that the words bring. often we feel we need to manipulate and 'expect' and want and need and take, change,etc..rather than just to 'dance with it'...wow, that's profound indeed!
